These tests are performed on a Windows Media Center Edition 2005 operating system, with service pack 3. This operating system runs in a Parallels Desktop virtual environment, with 512MB RAM allocated. The virtual environment in its turn runs on a MacbookPro (3,1) with 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 250 GB OCZ Vertex (rev. 1.3) SSD. Tested with a file set of 387 megabytes, on a 20 (down) / 1 (up) megabit ADSL connection.
*A) .iso and .mp3 files are excluded by default by carbonite, additional actions are needed to backup these file types; and also appears that carbonite limits the upload bandwidth to 2GB per day and that carbonite has got a bandwith limit after 50GB.
*B) the qfa test measures the time required for a 26.0 megabyte file to restore, on a system where all files have already been restored once
*C) amazon s3 storage cost for this 1 month test is divided in three parts:
(1) Traffic = 6.3% [DataTransfer-In-Bytes PutObject, DataTransfer-Out-Bytes ReadLocation ListBucket ListAllMyBuckets HeadObject GetObject] (2) Requests = 93.2% [Requests-Tier1 PutObject ListBucket ListAllMyBuckets CreateBucket, Requests-Tier2 GetObject ReadLocation HeadObject] and (3) Storage = 0.5% [StandardStorage TimedStorage-ByteHrs].
*D) the test quotum of mindtime measures 250 MB which is too small to make a full backup
*E) carbonite restore was aborted after 6 hours, result: only 1 file was restored by carbonite
*F) the restore operation at bestandig was aborted after 6 hours, result: all files with the exception of 4 pieces were restored
*G) bestandig qfa test was aborted prematurely because of the unacceptably long restore time: more than 15 minutes, with an estimate of 4 hours in total
*H) restore through icebackup failed to recover from 2 files, according to report, however, the same report states that 22,934 were recovered (84%)
*I) failed to restore 1 file according to report, however, the same report states that 13,553 were recovered (50%)
*J) to restore with jamby failed in 3 files
*K) software says that 0 files are skipped, nevertheless, only 19,063 of the 27,174 files are restored
*L) argeweb software says that 1 file is skipped, nevertheless were 6269 of the 27,174 files are restored (23%)
*M) the backup24 iron mountain connected backup software does not install: service agent service failed to start
*N) the backupgarantie software itself displays a 50% shorter recovery time; at a second attempt the application crashes; and third attempt gave a recovery of 30 minutes while the software itself reflects that 50% less recovery time is needed
*O) the kpn backup online software itself provides a shorter recovery time, from 19 minutes; at a second attempt the application crashes; at the third attempt the kpn backup online software again shows a shorter recovery time than the restore in reality takes
*P) the kpn backup online software itself indicates a shorter recovery time of 18 minutes, in practice it took longer
*Q) de met mkbackup gemaakte backup was onvolledig, daarna was de backup server onbereikbaar zodat herstellen niet getest kon worden
*R) backblaze maximum file size is 4 gigabytes, it is difficult to make an own file selection with blazeback software, in fact you can only exclude folders, volumes and extensions, extension vmc,vhd,vo1,vo2,vsv,vud,vmdk,vmsn,vmsd,hdd,vdi,vmwarevm,nvram,vmx,vmem,iso are always excluded; restore is only possible via web interface that prepares a zip-file or the physical paid shipping option; restore is unsafe because the web interface requires entry of your "private key", now that key is no longer private...
*S) at dell datasafe it is not possible to create an account, even after 5 attempts with different user name (ranging from 3 characters to complete e-mail e-mail address), the software reported: "Username already exists"
*T) the yuntaa managerreports for several hours (yuntaa.com is online and no failures are reported) every time "Please wait, Yuntaa manager is busy retrieving settings from the server', and after a few seconds 'No server connection'
*U) humyo is unsuitable as online backup: the software requires a drive letter mapping. This will give a future virus direct access to the backup files. That is an undesirable situation. In addition, the software can not regularly connect to the server and synchronization problems occur.
*V)fter the first backup completion, it is not possible to restore, the software reports that there is a backup running; after a reboot of the computer data can be restored.
*W) the system freezes after displaying a dialog with this text: error loading angel backup monitor: unexpected error: no error message available, result code: e_unexpected(0x8000ffff). getparameter:runsettings:compactdbdate
*X) the restore at back2web had to be started twice because of this error message: Sending data to the network: an establish connection was being closed by the remote host.: Sys-RC=10054, I/O Error occured.: SSL-RC=5; Sending data fails: Sending data fails.
*Y) after an initial fast start, diino backup speed dropped to almost zero (1kbps)
*Z) Error at 'Transferring list of secured files...': 'XML document structures must start and end within the same entity. Last...'
*AA) the Wuala client showed for 18 times a 'download failed' popup error message. The result was that no single file larger than 328KB could be restored; wuala.exe consumed all CPU resources; therefore it was necessary to apply a forced stop. After contact with the helpdesk we were told that, when used behind a firewall, a box called 'Compatibility mode' needed to be checked. No sooner said than done, and again tested.
*AC) measured after emptying the local cache
